Laura Bruce, Miranda Camden & Sowmya Hiremath
Funny Women Far From Home
Two Canadians and an Indian walk into a bar … Down Under!
This trio of talented comedians dish out a fun, fearless happy hour of stand-up.
Sowmya emigrated to New Zealand from Bengaluru, India.
Miranda left beautiful British Columbia for wet, windy Wellington.
And Laura? Born in Niagara, she’s lived in 8 countries on four continents — and now calls Melbourne home.
In 2021 Laura, Miranda, and Sowmya met in Wellington. They've performed together across Aotearoa. And now they're joining forces for their first Melbourne International Comedy Festival!
Don't miss Funny Women Far From Home, an hour of comedy with a distinctly international flavour!
Laura Bruce
NZ Comedy Guild "Newcomer of the Year" 2020, Laura debuted her first solo show How to Cook a Kiwi: Laura Bruce's N to Z of Aotearoa at the 2022 New Zealand Fringe Festival. An irreverent poke at Kiwi culture, the show toured New Zealand in 2023.
'Laura crafts an extraordinary evening of clean, sharp, and highly entertaining comedy.' Theatreview (NZ)
Miranda Camden
Born near Vancouver, British Columbia, Miranda has carved a life in Wellington's Aro Valley, where the beer is gluten-free and the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is fierce!
Miranda’s style of comedy has been described as unapologetic – quite an accomplishment for a Canadian. A 2019 Wellington Raw Quest Semi Finalist, and nominated Best MC and Best Up & Comer at the Wellington Comedy Awards 2020, she's not shy about discussing the trials and tribulations of life as a single woman in a couples' world.
'Her material is funny, feminist, at times absurd and often relatable.' Theatreview (NZ)
'A snappy, fast-paced delivery that has you sitting up in your seat.' Theatreview (NZ)
Sowmya Hiremath
Born in Karnataka, India, Sowmya has spent nearly a decade in Wellington, New Zealand.
After burying a pile of poems in her creative past, she decided to explore life’s absurdities and turn them into comedy. Her sharp wit and personal stories bring a unique perspective to the stage, transforming everyday experiences into laugh-out-loud moments.
Voted Best Female Comedian in 2020 by Cartel Comedy and nominated for Best Up-and-Comer in 2022 by the NZ Comedy Guild, Sowmya isn’t against arranged marriage – just the number of pillows it comes with.
'Very funny.' Art Murmurs
'A pint-sized maharani with a wry wit.' The Hook
