Backstage Room

The entrance to the Backstage Room is via Swanston St. The venue is on the First floor.

If you are facing the main entrance on Swanston Street:

• Enter through the main portico doors.
• Ascend the main staircase – approx. 20 stairs. Stairs are carpeted with handrails on either side. 
• At the top of the stairs, turn left.
• The entrance to the venue is approx. 20m along the corridor on the right (there is a short corridor that is used to access the venue space).

For step-free/wheelchair access:

If you are facing the main entrance on Swanston Street:

• To the left is a doorway that provides access to Lower Town Hall and Powder Room.
• Enter the doorway and proceed down the ramp that leads to the Lower Town Hall lobby.
• Before you reach Lower Town Hall lobby, turn right and follow the corridor down to the lifts.
• Take the lift to the first floor.
• Exit the lift into the large black and white tiled foyer.
• Go through the large gilded bronze doors towards the main steps and turn right.
• The venue is on your right approximately 20m down the corridor. A short corridor is used to access the venue space.

A Comedy Festival Front of House staff member can provide assistance to your seat if required. Please see How to Book Your Ticket  if you require a step-free and/or wheelchair accessible seat in the theatre.

All seating is general admission.

The Backstage Room has flat floor seating consisting of high back banquet style fabric chairs. Accessible seating is available on the left-hand side of the performance space near the entrance to the venue.

There is an accessible bathroom on the ground floor and the third floor of the building. Please speak to a staff member for assistance in finding your way to either of these facilities.

There is a bar situated in the first floor that services Powder Room, Cloak Room and Backstage Room venue spaces (approx. 40m away).
